What is Shockwave?

At Conwy Physio Clinic, we are dedicated to helping you get back to doing what you love, pain-free. If you have been struggling with a persistent injury, we want you to know that you don’t have to just “live with it.” We are pleased to offer Shockwave Therapy—an evidence-based, non-invasive treatment designed to kickstart your body’s natural healing process.

How Does It Work?

Think of Shockwave Therapy as a helpful nudge to your body’s own recovery systems.

Rather than just masking symptoms, this treatment creates an environment that actively encourages:

  • Enhanced Blood Flow: Improving circulation to the areas that need it most.
  • Natural Healing: Stimulating a cellular effect that promotes tissue repair and the formation of new blood vessels.
  • Pain Relief: Gently influencing your body’s pain-regulating mechanisms to provide you with local relief.

To deliver the treatment, we use a transmitter head and handpiece to transport acoustic radial pressure waves into the target area.

Conditions We Often Treat

We have seen excellent research-based results using Shockwave Therapy for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions:

  • Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain)
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Chronic Tendinopathies
  • Tennis or Golfer’s Elbow
  • Shoulder Tendinopathy & Rotator Cuff Pain
  • Hamstring Pain
  • Lateral Hip Pain
  • Myofascial Trigger Points (those persistent, tender “knots”)

Shockwave as part of your treatment at Conwy Physio Clinic

The best results happen when treatment is tailored to you. We don’t view Shockwave as a standalone fix, but rather as a powerful part of a wider, personalized recovery programme. Following your initial assessment, we will be able to determine the best treatment options and pathway for you.

Typically, clinical guidelines suggest a course of six sessions, spaced at 5–10 day intervals to help you achieve the best possible outcome.
